Hello SMC community,

I grew up in the Pleasant Grove area, and moved around the US due to my dad’s job from 5th grade to 10th grade, but we made it back to Dallas in the summer of 2010. I received my Bachelor of Art’s degree in Psychology and Spanish from the University of Dallas in Irving, TX and I have a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. During my Master’s program training, I fell in love with working with children of all ages, especially when they are struggling. My main goal, in life and here at SMC is to be an advocate for children. So often, children struggle to feel seen or understood by adults; I strive to be a safe haven for those who feel unseen and unheard, and then bridge their relationship to others so that they can feel seen and heard. I believe that collaborative work is the best work, so I often involve teachers and parents/guardians as well as additional programs and services to support students in the best way possible. I believe children are fully and wholly human that deserve the same level of respect as any other person and I strive to show them that every day with love. Over the last two years, I have been able to learn and dive deep into the needs of our student population. Understanding the unique needs of our students at SMC, this year, I will be serving as School Counseling and Student Services Coordinator. I feel honored to continue my work at SMC and I look forward to working with you and your child(ren)!

Crecí en el área de Pleasant Grove, pero me mude a varias partes de los EEUU del 5o al 10o grado. Regresé a Dallas en el verano del 2010. Recibí mi Licenciatura en Psicología y Español de University of Dallas en Irving, TX y tengo una maestría en Psicología Clínica de Duquesne University en Pittsburgh, PA. Durante mi programa de maestría, descubrí mi amor por trabajar con niños de todas las edades, especialmente en sus momentos más difíciles. Mi objetivo principal, tanto en la vida como en mi trabajo aquí en SMC es ser defensora de los niños. Frecuentemente, los niños suelen sentirse invisibles o ignorados. Yo me esfuerzo por ser una persona segura para ellos para que comiencen a sentirse reconocidos y escuchados y trabajo en ayudarlos a crear conexiones íntimas para que puedan sentirse reconocidos y escuchados por los demás. Creo que el trabajo en colaboración es el mejor trabajo. Por lo tanto, a menudo involucro a los maestros y padres/tutores, así como programas y servicios adicionales para ayudar a los estudiantes de la mejor manera posible. Creo que los niños son plena y completamente humanos y merecen el mismo nivel de respeto que cualquier otra persona y yo me esfuerzo por demostrárselo a ellos todos los días con amor. Durante los últimos dos años, he podido aprender y profundizar en las necesidades de nuestra población estudiantil. Al comprender las necesidades únicas de nuestros estudiantes en SMC, este año me desempeñaré como Coordinadora de Consejería Escolar y Servicios Estudiantiles. ¡Me siento honrada de continuar mi trabajo en SMC y espero trabajar con usted y su(s) hijo(s)!
